From Section 3: Golden Rules of Remittance

Always compare rates on the day you want to transfer

Rates change daily and the ranking between platforms shifts. What was cheapest last month may not be cheapest today. The difference between the best and worst platform on a $500 CAD transfer can be as much as 70,000 naira. That is real money lost every month by people who never compare.

Transfer larger amounts less often. Most platforms charge a flat fee plus a percentage. The flat fee eats more of your money on small transfers. Sending $400 once is cheaper in total than sending $200 twice. Never send under time pressure for the first time on a new platform. Do a small test transfer first when the recipient is not urgently waiting.

Screenshot your transfer confirmation every single time. If something goes wrong you have proof of the transfer details, exchange rate agreed, and timestamp. Keep records of all significant transfers for CRA reporting purposes.
